About Erdington

Historically, Erdington broke away from Aston to become its own urban district and has thrived as a result. Only in July 2020, it was voted as one of the best places to live in Birmingham (by several of the UK’s national estate agents) and is rapidly becoming an investment hotspot. Where is Erdington?

Situated between Aston and Sutton Coldfield, Erdington is a great location for students and working professionals.

Erdington has great transport links as it is in close proximity to the Spaghetti Junction, Aston expressway and Birmingham City Centre.

There are also excellent transport links, with 3 train stations (Gravely Hill, Erdington & Chester Road) that link to anywhere in the country, this is beneficial with the new clean air zone coming into effect from 01 June 2021.

The famous Six ways Island (located next to Henley Charles Estate Agents) is rumoured to be the oldest traffic roundabout in the UK. Around mid-18th Century, Erdington had a population of under 700 and only 96 cottages but now is home to over 103,200 people.

 

What is Erdington Known For?

Surprisingly, Edington is known for its culture and music.

It was formerly home to the famous rock music venue, Mothers (previously the Carlton Ballroom). It famously hosted bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Who. These resident bands were Erdington locals.

This isn’t the only fame associated with Erdington, the very talented John Oliver who is a well-known comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host was also born and raised here.

Erdington is a multi-cultural area with a diverse range of shops and restaurants located on the high street and surrounding areas, ranging from the Hungarian Supermarket to the enticing Lebanese restaurant.

This is good location with excellent links to Birmingham city centre where famous iconic buildings such as the Birmingham Museum and the newly built library and of course the highly rated Grand Central Station.

World famous industries are also based close to Erdington, such as the renowned Jaguar Landover factory.

The Fort shopping centre is only a 10-minute drive from the High street and the new West Midlands McArthur Glen designer outlet is only a 30 minute drive away.

The outlet boasts big brands such as Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Kurt Geiger, Reiss and many more.
